Skype software can be used on an Apple MacBook very easily

. Unlike numerous software, that run only on Windows Operating System, Skype has a special MacBook version released by the company, which is still in the beta or development mode. The latest version of Skype is 2.8, which enables video calling and voice chat.

To get Skype you will need to visit their website and download the software, the current version for the Mac is version 2.8, when visiting the website you may find yourself on the Windows page, do not download that version as it will not work. Once you have downloaded the latest version click on its installer and follow the step by step guide.

After installation, things are just as simple as any Windows PC. Skype 2.8 has certain minimum system requirements so that it runs smoothly on your system. An Intel processor and a minimum Random Access Memory of 512 MB is required to run this software on your system. Other requirements are a microphone and a high-speed broadband connection to make clear audio and video calls to your friends and family members, sitting miles away from you.

When installing you can keep the logging settings at automatic, every time you switch on your Macbook it will load up as part of the start up routine. However if you will not be using Skype daily then it might be wise to set this to off. The settings can be found under the Applications-Skype tab in your Macbook. If you have an integrated iSight camera this can be used with your Macbook by clicking on the Photo Booth option in the Application Menu.
