Installing Bathroom Sinks

Whether you're building a new bathroom or renovating your current bathroom

, installing a new bathroom sink will be imminent. Installing bathroom sinks is something that requires an eye for detail but with the right tools and some patience, it's a DIY project that will save you money and provide you with a sense of pride when finished. You'll need a ruler, marker, saber saw, wrench, caulk and silicone adhesive for the job.

Bathroom sinks come with step-by-step instructions. Included in these instructions is a cutout that you'll use to trace your outline on the counter top. It's important that this is the first thing you do because this is where you're sink is going to be installed. If, for some reason, your sink does not include a cutout, you can make your own with a piece of cardboard.

Use the saber saw to drill holes around the traced outline, making sure to support the bottom of the counter top when you're nearing the final hole. Once completed, you'll move to the drain and faucet.

Put a small amount of adhesive (plumber's putty) on the drain and put in the drain assembly, making sure you use all the washers. Attach the drain plumbing part to the house water supply with the locking nuts, making sure they're tight.

Using the markers on the sink for your guide, install the faucet in the hole for the faucet. Once the faucet is situated, put a line of adhesive all around the sink's bottom edge. Make sure the sink is lined up with the front edge of the cut out on the counter top. While you don't want to overdo it, make sure you use enough silicone adhesive to provide a tight seal. Push down firmly for seal it tightly. Once you're sure the adhesive has set, apply a thin line of caulk all around the sink's edge, smoothing it out as you go. The result: a beautifully installed bathroom sink!
