Installing Dallas Hardwood Floors
Dallas wood floors are instant choices for homeowners who go for a warm
, relaxing mood in their homes. But before the comfort, elegance and relaxation comes a need for the decision-making. What is there to consider exactly before installing your hardwood floors? And how do you want them to be installed? You can opt for nailing, gluing, stapling, and etc. Choose which one is most appropriate according to one important detail: that is your sub-flooring.
Nailing down the Dallas hardwood floors is one option. This is suitable for plywood sub-floors and obviously not to concrete ones. Because hardwood is thick, and has more tendency to contract or expand, it has to be installed with stronger foundations. Nailing hardwood down is the best method for thick, solid hardwood but must be done by professionals and not as a DIY method.
Also for wood sub-floors, another method is stapling. This is a method mostly done to wide planks or strips of wood for flooring. This is a DIY recommendation. Just keep in mind that there must be other considerations such as the wood thickness and the proper staple sizes.
For concrete sub-floors, installing with glue is an option. Gluing is also chosen by some homeowners with plywood sub-floors over stapling since properly glued wooden floors do not creak and do not make any sound when expanding. The desirable quality of gluing is the good stability which is why it is most common for engineered floors, however, one must look out for uneven sub-floors before installing wood floors with glue. Glue-installing is not advisable for uneven sub-floors. Over time, floors could pop out of position when glued on uneven surfaces.
A method that is gaining popularity is the free-float method, which is commonly used in engineered flooring and is a very Do-It-Yourself friendly method. It involves foam, plastic, or a combination of both, used to underlay the actual wood flooring. Then, the boards or strips are applied with glue to its edges and are stuck perfectly fit together. This allows for a greater stability since the flooring is not attached to the sub-floor leaving you with no creaking and popping problems.
In choosing installation methods for Dallas wood floors, always remember to consider the sub-floor. Check for the materials, the budget, and the stability of the sub-floor as well as the wood flooring to be installed and you are one step closer to the wood flooring you've always wanted.
