Insurance Adjusters- Who is an Insurance Adjuster

?

In case of any personal or professional damage/loss, you would want to make up for the losses from your insurance company if you are covered by an insurance policy. Often many policyholders believe that they will receive their payment of their insurance coverage. But when they do not get what they deserve, they file a claim against their insurance company. Insurance companies hire professionals for such claims. Such professionals are called Insurance Adjusters or Loss Adjusters or Claim Adjusters.

Insurance Adjusters will view the claim with an outlook to the % they will receive. They are an independent body who represent both the insurance provider and the insured and negotiate on both behalves. They will make sure that the conditions of your policy have been observed and will adjust the claim as it is submitted.

They work on behalf of insurance companies. They investigate the claims by interviewing the claimant and witnesses, consulting police and hospital records and then preparing documentation on the basis of their investigation and inspection. The documents contain technical terms that may be unknown to the policyholder and a trained insurance adjuster can confirm a correct and fair settlement and completion.

As discussed above, insurance adjusters work for insurance companies, not the claimant i.e. they work for insurers not the insured. As they get paid by the insurance company, so their loyalty will be more towards the company. They will use all the tact's and will try their level best to give the claimant least amount of settlement for his/her claim. This can make claimant feel helpless. He can also hire a professional at his end who will work entirely for him. These insurance professionals are known as insurance assessors. The services of insurance assessors will help you deal with you insurance company's adjusters.

Insurance Adjusters are classified under several categories:

1. Staff Adjusters- These are employed by the insurance companies.

2. Independent Adjusters- These are not insurance companies employees, they are independent.

3. Public Adjusters- These are employed by policyholders.

4. Claim Service Representatives-These are employed by insurance company or independent adjusting company.

Now, the first, second and fourth categories of adjusters work on behalf of the insurer.

Thus an insurance adjuster represents the insurance company involved in the claim by finding out the facts and then using them to negotiate a settlement.
