Intel Accounted For 80.3% Of The Global Market Share In Q3

It is reported that the global shipments of the processor in the third quarter rose slightly

. According to the report, in the past year, thought AMD is affected by issues of manufacturing, it still grabs some market share from the hands of Intel.

According to the data, compared to the same period of the last year, the processor shipments in the third quarter increased 5%. The analyst said that although the global PC shipments in the past year had a slow growth, the chip shipments are still growing.

Intel's third-quarter market share decreased slightly from the 80.6% in the last year to 80.3%. At the same time, AMD's market share grew from the 18.3% in the last year to 18.8%. The research data include x86 system that is used in laptops, desktops and servers. The company did not provide data of the microprocessor shipments.

The analyst said that compared to the same period of the last year, the Fusion mobile chip that AMD created for laptops for netbooks has much better performance. It is also the good performance of the chip that help AMD to grab a little market share from Intel.

Fusion includes a powerful CPU and a Radeon graphics core on a single chip and the performance of the processor has a huge boost than the previous generation chips released in the last year. In the market, AMD's Fusion chips and Intel's chip code-named Sandy Bridge are direct competitive products. These two chips are released in the beginning of the year.

The performance of Intel's latest chip is quite good, but AMD's processor is more favored by a wide range of PC makers and buyers. He also said, the lower average sales price of AMD's chips may also be an advantage.

In this quarter, the average price of the PC processor is $ 107, the highest price in nearly five years. The last time that the price of e processors was more than $ 107 was in the first quarter of 2007.

Despite AMD's performance this year has a slight increase, but compared to Intel, AMD lost in the processor market. In the second quarter, Intel accounted for 79.9% of the market, while AMD is only 19.4%. In the short term, manufacturing problems have a great impact on AMD. The company's chip supply has not kept up with the market demand, which allows Intel to obtain a larger market share.
