Inter Explorer 10 For Windows 8 Modern-style Browsing
Microsoft's very own Internet browser, Internet Explorer has been optimized to introduce the new tenth installment, Internet Explorer 10 (IE10)
. It has been customized for high performance with Microsoft's much talked operating system, Windows 8. The main difference this time round is that there are two versions of IE10, which will be running on the same OS. One of them is a standard desktop app, and another one is a modern-style, touch-centric app. Users can switch between the two as and when they wish. In terms of aesthetics and looks, Internet Explorer 10 for desktop is a successor of Internet Explorer 9.
IE10 comes packed with all the modern UI treatments with its own app for modern environment. According to Microsoft, the modern-style IE10 puts focus on the web and not the browser.
Less Browser and More Web
It offers edge-to-edge browsing with webpage taking the whole screen. This version of IE will surely prove you wrong, if you think browser design cannot get more minimalist. And, similar to all the other modern-style apps, it also works best with a touch-enabled device. You can easily tap to open a link, flick to scroll through pages, and pinch to zoom the images. However, Microsoft has worked to ensure that the IE works well with traditional keyboard and mouse while focusing on touch. To access other app commands and controls, just swipe in from top or bottom corner of the screen.
A bar at the top will show all your opened pages. Just tap the '+' button to open a new blank page. The 'More' button provides you with two more options; to close all the tabs except the one you are on and open a new InPrivate tab. The latter feature is also present on the desktop version of the
Internet Explorer 10. It is a privacy mode that allow surfing web without any browsing history that is data, password, webpage history, address bar info, cookies, and temporary Internet files are not stored.
More options for navigation
The navigation bar is now located at the bottom with the usual forward, back and refresh buttons. The navigation bar also carries a 'pin' button to pin a webpage to the start screen or add it to favourites list.
More interesting options can be revealed from the Tool icon like request for viewing the page on the desktop version (due to lack of plug-ins) or searching for a specific text on a page. You will also like the 'Get app for this site' option, which will let you know if the website you are surfing provides an app. If it does, you can hit the option to go to the Windows Store for downloading the app. Another amazing option is 'flip ahead' which let you swipe across the next page without using the next page link. Of course, the feature will work with a straightforward page hierarchy. The 'flip ahead' option is also available in the desktop version of IE10. You can turn on the feature from Internet Options menu via the Settings Charm. As the functionality depends on the website design, it may not work all the time.
Security and more
Security has also received a boost in IE10 like SmartScreen Filter, which detects phishing websites. In September 2011, Microsoft has also announced that IE10 is going to be 'plug-in free. All in all, after several months usage of the Internet Explorer 10, reviews have come that Microsoft has certainly moved in the right direction for the user experience.
