Interactive Graphic Novel, The Flame, Hailed As slumdog Millionaire For The Olympics
LONDON, May 2012: Already hailed as the Slumdog Millionaire for the Olympics by reviewers
, E-motion Publishing has this week announced the launch of The Flame, a ground-breaking interactive graphic novel. Following the protagonist Haikims epic journey from poverty stricken Ethiopia to the worlds greatest athletic event, The Flames graphics and cinematic soundtrack immerse readers in the fascinating heritage of Ethiopian running. With 25% of all profits being donated to the Ethiopiaid charity, each in-app purchase of 1.99 helps more children like Haikim win their race against poverty.
With all the glitz and glamour surrounding the Olympics these days, it is easy to forget the courage and passion behind the event, says Paul Wilson, author of The Flame. We wanted our readers to experience the real Olympic Spirit, and no-one embodies this spirit better than the Ethiopian team. When the legendary runner Bikila won the 1960s summer Olympics barefoot, he attributed his success to the determination and heroism of his home country, Ethiopia. This is the spirit that we want The Flame to express through its ground-breaking animation and authentic rustic soundtrack.
Bekoji, the small Ethiopian highland town that has spawned the worlds greatest runners has motivated an influx of media interest as of late, inspiring everything from Guardian articles to film documentaries such as Town of Runners. Olympic gold medal runners Kenenisa Bekele, Tirunesh Dibaba, Derartu Tulu and Fatuma Roba are all proud to call Bekoji their home. The Flame allows audiences to further explore this heritage through the unique, immersive medium of the graphic novel.
