As on May 18, close to 42,000 H-1B limit-subject visa applicationsfor a total of 65,000 visas which are up for grabs every year--have already been filed before the concerned organization of the country, i.e., the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). The figure is comparatively higher than the 11,200 visa applications submitted during the corresponding duration before, during the year gone by.

Further, 16,000 H-1B visa applications for overseas persons having advanced American degrees--out of the 20,000 to be had visas--have already come the USCIS way. This clearly shows that as on May 18, 2012, just 4,000 visas are up for grabs for the H-1B visa advanced degree level visa limit, and 18,000 under the H-1B regular visa limit.

On April 2, 2012--with a starting date of October 1, 2012, or afterwards--the concerned organization of the country, the USCIS, began to entertain the applications meant for the famed H-1B visa program. Every year, just 65,000 visas/permits are for grabs under regular H-1B visa limit petitions meant for overseas workers (graduate level) in specialized or specific occupation openings. Besides, an extra 20,000 visas are made available for those who possess an advanced degree from any of the universities of the nation, including a Masters or higher degree.

Though the figures reveal a continuous and recurring requirement, and an improved rate of H-1B visa submissions, vis-a-vis last year, when we compare the figures with that of 2008, when the H-1B visa limit was touched during the first week of the application season itself, we find that they are still nowhere.

Those who are still mulling over filing a limit-subject H-1B application for 2013 would do well to apply for the said purpose sooner than laterthe reason being the limit is likely to be touched soon; in fact, inside the next month or two. After the visa limit has been touched, the USCIS will not entertain the applications meant for H-1B for the mentioned period. The situation will remain the same until April 1, 2013 after which fresh applications can be duly filed for the next year.
