Interesting Baby Trivia
Children grow up really fast
Children grow up really fast. In almost no time at all a baby goes from a ball of rapidly dividing cells to the beginnings of a human being with rudimentary lungs, a brain and a pumping heart. There are only forty weeks from conception to independent life. Personalities and decisions begin being made almost immediately after birth. Most people already know that babies need someone to change their diapers and teach them how to speak. This article contains a few facts about early childhood and babies that should be new to you.
Even before a baby is born he is sensitive to light. The eyes are complicated devices that are made up of millions of nerves and fibers. The coordination needed for the eyes to function properly is extraordinary. Babies have functioning eyes by just a few months after they are conceived. Your baby will be sensitive to light changes by the time your pregnancy is six months along. Here's something else about your baby's eyes: if he is Caucasian he will be born with blue eyes but they might not stay that color! Caucasian babies do not usually keep their "original" eye color (blue). So don't let yourself get too attached to the blue color. Your baby might have different colored eyes before too long!
Your baby, in spite of not being able to talk right away, will amaze you with the range of sounds that he or she can make almost as soon as he or she is born. This is because the larynx (or voice box) is still developing after babies are born. Adult voice boxes have already begun to stiffen up, which is why babies are better at creating new sounds. Pay attention to your baby's sounds: it won't take long for him to assign specific sounds to specific needs or things. This is the way babies teach their parents how to get them what they want-as long as the parents are paying attention they can usually figure it out within a moment or two. Typically, most of a baby's beginning vocabulary will consist of easy vowels and consonants that he can make using only the front of his mouth. Babies will usually say "dada" before "mama" because "dada" uses the front of the mouth and is easier for the baby to learn to say-and it's first utterance is almost always an accident!
Common knowledge states that babies don't smile until long after they are born. Smiling is often attributed to gas or the baby's having to go to the bathroom-at least until it reaches a few weeks in age. Nobody thought that smiling could be instinctual; instead it was widely regarded as learned behavior. Disapproval and unhappiness were thought to be easier for a baby to express than happiness. Now scientists have learned differently. Ultrasounds have gotten a lot better in recent years and prove that babies can smile before they are born. Lots of mothers and fathers have been given photographic evidence of their baby smiling in the womb. Some scientists now believe that the reason babies take so long to "learn" to smile is because the birthing process is so traumatic for them.
The fact is that most knowledge about childhood development is not widely known. Early childhood development is amazing. The better your understanding of the subject, the more fun you will have watching your kids grow up!
