Brasil in Portuguese, is the fifth largest country in the world which is located in the continent of South America and holds the honor of being the fourth most populous democracy in the world. The capital city of Brazil is Brasilia and it is regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in the world which was designed by a world renowned architect named Oscar Niemeyer.

Brazil was discovered in 1492 by a Portuguese explorer named Pedro Alvares Cabral who initially named the land as Portugal. The advent of the sixteenth century brought with it the transportation of slaves from Africa to work in sugar plantations and this practice continued till the latter half of the nineteenth century when slavery was finally abolished once and for all in 1888.
Brazil boasts of a vast stretch of coastline which extends over a distance of 7500 miles along the Atlantic Ocean in the east and the country shares its political boundaries with every other country in South America other than Chile and Ecuador.
Brazil is home to the largest rainforest in the world namely the Amazon rainforest which occupies an area of 2.3 million square miles and is inhabited not only by the native Indian tribes but also by a large variety of flora and fauna which are not found anywhere else in the world.
A trip through the rainforest would enable one to catch a glimpse of many rare species of animals like the ocelot, puma, jaguar, the caiman crocodile, the tapir and a variety of insects and reptiles. In addition, Brazil also has the most species of monkeys in the world and the famous anaconda also happens to be an inhabitant of this country.
The coffee which comes from Brazil is reputed to be the best as well as the tastiest in the world although Brazilians prefer to drink cocoa instead.
The national sport of Brazil is soccer and it is a sport which draws the maximum passion from the people due to the fact that Brazil has won the soccer world cup five times which is the maximum among all the participating countries. Commonly referred to as futebol among the local people, every Brazilian neighborhood boasts of at least one soccer stadium and the Maracana stadium ranks as the most beautiful soccer stadium in the world.
Brazil is home to the second largest Christian population in the world and it is one of the largest Roman Catholic countries with a 130 feet tall statue of Christ the Redeemer to symbolize the devotion of the people.
The currency of Brazil is real which consists of both horizontal and vertical pictures and the official language of the country is Portuguese.
Since Brazil has a tropical climate, a number of tropical fruits like mangoes, pineapples and bananas are grown here. The specialty of the country is a fruit known as Acai berry which is consumed by the Brazilians to stay young, healthy and fit.
