Internet Explorer is Still The Worst
Why? I'm not even going to bother writing about a specific reason why Internet Explorer SUCKS because I think the entire browser just SUCKS
. There has literally been groups and cults set up for the people who hate IE so much. People have "IE SUCKS Parties" and literally there are websites out there for how much people think IE SUCKS. There's really nothing much more to say other then that!
It comes down to the fact that IE is a developers worst nightmare. Especially the earlier versions of IE. The negatives of IE just completely outweigh the positives (if there are any? Maybe that it comes pre-installed and you don't have to download it?You also have to look at the standards and how they are completely not met in almost all of their versions. Now almost all browsers doesn't follow the standards to a T, but at least Firefox and Safari breaks the rules to make their product better! IE is by FAR the WORST browser there is. Microsoft refuses for some reason to follow to the standards. Why? No idea
Okay so they came out with a new release with IE 7 and 8, that are "trying" to stay with the standards. I'll give it to Microsoft that IE 8 starts to do a much better job following standards and giving developers a little bit less of a headache. But this is the thing With firefox you don't really have to program for every version and every release. Where as with IE you have to program for IE 6, IE 7, and now IE 8. What the hell? That just SUCKS! So thanks for fixing the issues, but how about now we have to wait until the others die! Which according to
ie6funeral.com, IE 6 has finally "died" (thank god!). I have had websites that looked amazing in every browser, and every version of IE except 1 or 2. So now I have to sit there and waste more time fixing the issues in all the version of IE. I seriously think IE is a huge reason why developers charge more money now a days. Because now we have to seriously set aside an extra 3-5 hours per website to make sure it works in every version of IE. Which okay that's cool I get more hours, but after a while it gets old and I rather spend that 3-5 hours on a new project to add to my portfolio.
For an example. I had a client that uploaded a photo in wordpress and worked in every single browser but IE (and in all versions of IE). I told her to just rename and re-upload the image and it worked, but seriously? Like what a pain in the butt! I've had issues with JPG's and IE before and it happens every so often. Or how about the padding and margin problem how it adds more? How annoying is that! So if you add padding it adds to the width, that is not standard people!
The reason why Safari and Firefox are the two most popular browsers (I don't care what people think IE is not the most popular), is because they both deliver a reliable and stable service for their users. They render the pages accurately, with great standard compliance, and they just work great! Safari was created to just be simple, which a lot of people like. Especially those who do not need the extra add ons, why even offer? Firefox also starts off very simple with not that many options and functions, but they allow you to add onto your browser with firefox add ons created by developers. Which I think was cool because it now opened a new opportunity for developers to make money and promote their work. Firefox is also the best browser for SEO specialist who are trying to optimize a website because of all the additional plugins to help save you time during your optimizing.
Run down of the versions:
Internet Explorer 6 Just a complete failure when it came to security and standard-compliance. How many times have you heard of people getting spyware and when they were asked what browser they were using, they of course said IE. Also, something that was extremely annoying and SUCKED , in IE 6 you can't use transparent images without extra script (which still doesn't always work). That is the worst and really sucks for developers.
Internet Explorer 7 As it did get better, but still was not close to following the internet standards and still is a huge headache for developers.
Internet Explorer 8 Finally I think Microsoft got the picture. But IE still locks up on little issues, where if Firefox see's an issue it won't lock up the entire script. I've also heard from a lot of people that their IE 8 freezes all the time. The browser is also still not 100% up to par with the compliances. Plus the entire compatibility mode throws me off and now we have to code for that as well. It's just really annoying.
In conclusion until a version of IE comes out that is 100% acceptable and the other browsers "die", we will still all think IE SUCKS!
