Internet Marketing Advice: Don't Be Sucked Into Buying Something You Already Have!

When it comes to Internet Marketing advice, it's easy to make a mistake and buy some

tool or system that does something you can already do with another tool you already have.

The problem for newbies (and sometimes even for seasoned Internet marketers) is that many of the so-called Internet marketing gurus are brilliant copywriters. They can spin words in such a way that you become hypnotized by what they are saying. They talk about the marvelous new system they've invented, or the miracle software that can take all the work out of something you need to do for your business.

But think about what happens in the "real" world, the physical world we live in every day. When Nikon advertises a new feature on one of its cameras, we know it's still a camera they're selling. So if we already have a camera, Nikon or some other brand, we're not sucked into thinking that if we don't immediately rush out and buy the new model we'll never be able to take another photograph again! We don't run to the store and buy the camera, only to come home and find we already have a camera, do we?

But that's exactly what we can so easily do in Internet marketing if we're not careful. As I write this, one of the top names in our industry has released a new video describing "the most important skill" in Internet marketing. It's couched in terms that make it sound sexy and catchy and new. But it's not new. It's a decent technique, but it's been talked about by gurus and marketers for years. Many Internet marketers are already doing it. The video is persuasive, but I'm not getting caught this time!

My answer? I follow only a small number of my best gurus. If someone I've never heard of sends me an email telling me I need to drop everything and buy their new system, I just remind myself that if my select gurus are not talking about it, it's probably not worth talking about. And if it's really important, I'll be hearing about it from them. I belong to their membership sites, so I'll be getting click by click instructions on how to follow the system or method. So I don't need to pay this unknown genius to tell me how it made him a fortune and how it can do the same for me.

So next time you're tempted to buy some piece of software, or expensive system, ask yourself what is the actual function it fulfills. Do you already have another way of doing this?

Don't buy something you already have. Choose a few of your own best gurus, and take your Internet marketing advice only from them.
