However, not all Forums will turn up on the top 3 pages of the Search Engines, especially if you are into a very specific niche.

One other way to do so is to ask around. If you are part of a fan club in Facebook or are linked to Twitter, drop those members an email and you may be surprised with their recommendations. Explore your options.

2. Criteria for Selecting Forums

First, consider how much traffic the Forum is getting based on the number of posts and topics. Then analyze how active the Forum is in terms of now many members are logged on at any one time and the average frequency of postings. Have a sense of the demographics of the crowd who visit and post on the Forum. For example, a sports car forum and a vintage car forum obviously attract different groups of visitors in terms of age, personality and interests.
