Internet Marketing Fail: Move On!

When you've done something really stupid, it's a challenge to get past the mistake, isn't it? Knowing that you've done something really shitty that have messed up your life or your business can be a real pain-in-the-butt. All you really want to do is keep blaming yourself for what happened.

Take this, for example: You write an instructional manual on how to create a web site, hoping to make tons of money from it. Your research, after all, is telling you to cash in on the "make money online" wave that's making a lot of marketers rich. You figure that wannabees would want to know all about building a websitethis being the basic infrastructure in doing biz online. But after spending sleepless nights and a lot of effort on your ebook and after spending a bit of a sum in your advertising, your sales fall flat. After more than four months marketing it, you haven't even broke even!

It's one helluva slap, realizing much much later that people do not want to spend money on information that they can get for free online. Or, they'd rather go to a pro and have one so designed rather than wasting their money on learning something that they'd only do a mediocre job at anyway.

Or, here's another one: In the fit of your anger, you fired your most dependable worker (whether it be one of your writers, your web developers or your technical boys) because of one simple fib or a missed deadline. After cooling down, you realize that they're valuable to you and no one can give you the same quality of service than they. Plus, the hassle of training someone new can take up much more of your time and energywhich would have been put to better use in thinking of more creative ways to leverage your product.

We make mistakes. If we're lucky, they can still be mended. But most of the time, these wrong moves are too costly and cause irreparable damage. This is the shitty part of being human.

But here's a quote by Rich Schefren that I hope you'll keep in mind and allow you to move on even with the most major blunder: "The trick is to learn from your mistakes. Just do your best to limit your risk. Focus everyday, keep trying, learn what works, and don't torture yourself when you take a wrong turn. Just notice it, learn from it, and change your approach."
