Any business located in a remote or secluded area will likely experience the disappointment

of not being able to employ the same network services that are offered to businesses in larger metropolitan areas. There is, however, one reliable, high-speed, economical service that is available virtually anywhere Internet T1.

Many potential customers have brushed off T1 connections, thinking they are either too expensive or not available in their area, when in fact this couldnt be further from the truth. These misconceptions stem from Internet T1s early days and are two of the driving forces behind companies opting for bargain services, like cable or DSL.

The trouble with bargain services is that even if they are available in your area they arent as much of a bargain as you might think. Sure, the cost is less, but only because they offer shared as opposed to dedicated bandwidth. With a shared connection, your ISP splits available bandwidth with other active users on the network. This can be as few as 10 or as many as 1000, causing speeds to slow to a crawl during peak hours. In a way, shared bandwidth is akin to airlines overbooking flights. Just as airlines oversell tickets to help ensure all seats are filled at take-off, ISPs intentionally sell more capacity than they have available rather than allow that bandwidth to go unused. However with a dedicated connection like an Internet T1 line, your ISP sets aside bandwidth that is always available solely for your use. Moreover, Internet T1 connections also offer Service Level Agreements (SLA) that guarantee issues such as repair time, latency, jitter and bandwidth, and offer compensation in the event that the agreed upon terms are not met.

Internet T1 lines also provide a wide range of speeds. A standard T1 connection offers simultaneous upload/download speeds of 1.5 Mbps. If you require less than what a full T1 can offer, a fractional T1 might be your best bet. As its name suggests, with a fractional T1 you only use and pay for a specific number of the 24 channels that are provided on a full T1 line. On the other hand, if you require more bandwidth than a single T1 line can offer, two or more T1 lines can be bonded together for a greater amount of bandwidth. For example, two T1 lines that are bonded together provide 3.0 Mbps.
