The watches were supposed to have installed micro-computers, larger screens and act basically as modern smartphones. Eventually the mobile phones rooted them our and evolved in everyday helpers for everyone from casual users up to the most serious business tasks.

One of the serious signs of the PC and TV war is the gaming industry. Initially it started on arcade machines but then switched to home entertainment. Eventually when in the 90th the PC became really available to general public PC gaming became a real competitor to the video games industry. People who witnessed this in the end of the 90th were betting on the PC. It was more functional, could be upgraded and provided better graphics. But in time the consoles got more powerful hardware and started adding the most popular functionality of the PC. Today the PC gaming industry is dying and all the fresh releases first get a release for the consoles. Naturally this gives the TV and console alliance an advantage.

Money and Innovations

While the US completely switched to digital TV in 2009, lots of countries still use analogue TV. And for lots o them the technical side of the problem is the defining thing. Switching over will take time, so the global victory of the TV is still a bit delayed. In addition to this the channels that produce the content lie television shows have a serious financial issue with the online TV. Digital TV means that the viewer controls the program and that advertising can be turned off or replaced by the local broadcasters ads. This leaves the original channels only profits from the content and in some cases even leaves them without any profit.

Anyway the main thing is still functionality. One of the reasons why the consoles won is because they were easier to use for most of the consumers. The same thing goes for the PC and TV situation. TV with attached keyboard can offer the same main functions as the PC (the most popular is basically internet browsing) and that on a bigger screen in front of your favorite sofa! This advantage will most likely help the TV to become the defining platform for the web because it will combine browsing, Internet TV and be a media center at the same time. Another great thing is that it allows purchasing content online and later include it in your monthly bill.
