Intra Linking: Why It Is Vital For SEO

Intra-linking is very important for page optimization. It's one part of on page SEO that many beginners neglect, and all it means is to connect the content pages on your web site with each other by using links within your written content.

Most websites have a navigation system, which leads to all the other pages in the site. This is important, of course; however, those navigation systems are redundant on each page. Google discounts redundancy like that. They won't penalize for duplicate content, but they won't give each page the benefit of being linked to 10 times or 20 times, depending on how many links, and pages are in the sites.

Intra linking to pages is very important from other pages. This is called back links. Even from pages within your own site, the back links from those pages to other pages are counted by Google as part of their page rank algorithm. So it's very important that within your web site, the content pages all link within each other.

The way I often do this is to create the site first and then go back and make me a giant circle on a piece of paper and list all of the pages around that circle, and then I go through the pages in my web editor and one by one, I make links from one page to another page.

In other words, from site A, I may put a link to site C. Then from site B, I'll make a link to site C. So I link all those pages and I have a piece of paper mapping out the linking so I don't forget any pages.

My goal would be, on say a 20-page site that each page would be linked to from at least two other pages. Now the bigger the site I have, the more pages I could link back, but on a 10- to 20-page site, each page probably should be linked to by a couple of other pages on the site. I'll make sure that all the pages are covered by using my little graphical checklist that I drew on my paper.About the Author:
