Introducing 3D Ultrasound And Even 4D Ultrasound

There is a brand new type of ultrasound which allows the mother to see a 3D or 4D view of her baby. It is so exciting and new but it goes beyond being able to see the actual baby inside the womb. You can see the actual size and features of the baby as if you were holding it in your arms. It is a dramatic new invention pioneered by a Dr. Stuart Campbell at the Doctors Create Health Clinic in London. It is so much more powerful than the 2D image shown on the 2D ultrasound which is still important.
Why is this So Exciting?
According to a BBC report, doctors and childhood development specialists have been witness to the new and fascinating behaviours of the foetus while in the womb. They have developed new milestones for the babies while in utero which normally we would not be able to acknowledge.
For example, a foetus can be seen walking in the womb at 12 weeks gestation. Babies have been noticed yawning and rubbing their eyes. What a remarkable picture that must be. Of course, this 3D and 4D ultrasound is not free as it is an elective option. Babies are viewed smiling or is that gas?
At 12 weeks the foetus can climb, walk, stretch, and kick. Most mothers feel that first kick around the second trimester and this is proof that it is really happening. At 18 weeks, the babys eyes can open; whereas, in the past doctors believed they were fused until 26 weeks. At 26 weeks, the 3D or 4D ultrasound can notice baby behaviours such as sucking, smiling, scratching and hiccupping. This lends itself to the theory that these actions are innate and not learned once they are born.
Other Reasons
Of course if there is more than one baby, imagine the romping and kicking and sucking that would be going on! That leads to the other use for an ultrasound, no matter what type. Often a woman has trouble conceiving a child on her own. She may elect to try in vitro fertilisation which gives her a chance to have the baby she so desperately wants. So the doctor collects her viable ova or eggs and he waits until she is in her fertile period. He places the fertilised ova into her womb and they wait. Perhaps up to two or four weeks later, she can have an ultrasound or a blood test to see if she is pregnant. The ultrasound would show if a foetus was beginning to form and how many, in fact, had formed. In the case of inserting several eggs, many babies could be formed and you could end up with a multiple pregnancy.
Ultrasounds would then be necessary to keep track of how the babies were developing and if any of them were in trouble or not progressing as well as the others. If the mother did not want to have quite so many babies at once she could elect to have selective termination, thereby eliminating one or more of the foetuses. But that is a decision between the parents and their doctor. As a final test, the ultrasound can detect if the placenta is placed to closely to the opening of the cervix and whether or not the doctor can do anything about it. Or if the baby is presenting breach, which means the buttocks are coming out first instead of the head. This could be rectified during labour which would make it an easier birth for either the mother or baby.
