Introducing Nlp - Milton Model

The Milton Model was inspired by the great hypnotist

, psychiatrist and pioneer of medical hypnosis Milton H. Erickson. This model is one of the powerful nlp techniques, according to the Joseph OConnor and John Seymour, in their book of Introducing NLP: Psychological Skills for Understanding and Influencing People, The Milton Model is referring to: a way of using language to induce and maintain trance in order to contact hidden resources of our personality. It follows the way the mind works naturally. Trance is a state where you are highly motivated to learn from your unconscious mind in an inner directed way. It is not a passive state, nor are you under anothers influence. There is co-operation between client and therapist; the clients responses letting the therapist know what to do next.(pp. 113-114)

The Milton Model hypnotic language patterns are is a powerful tool for hypnotically opening up the mind to new possibilities and used to help guide someone without interfering with their experience. Unlike the Meta Model, the Milton Model relies essentially on skillful vagueness of the language while the Meta Model makes vague language specific.

Here are some language patterns examples:

1) Simple Deletions - Remember a time ...

2) Mind reading - I know you are thinking ...

3) Causality Listen to the sound of fan will makes you feel more comfortable

4) Nominalizations - So close your eyes and think for a moment about some recent learning

5) Unspecified verbs - People can learn better under relax condition

6) Modal operators - You should start feeling cold

7) Universal quantifiers - Every breath takes you into deeper sleep.

8) Linguistic presuppositions - When you go into trance, you may discover that todays learning had associate with your subconscious mind.

9) Lack of Referential Index: you can get what you want.

10) Lost performatives - Relaxation allows your creativity to flow

In summary, the Milton Model language pattern is useful in sales, therapy, family relations and in gaining rapport in general. The Milton model is purposely vague and metaphoric and is used to soften the meta model and make indirect suggestions. Patience and observation are keys to the Milton Model of hypnosis success.
