Invisalign and What They Are
Invislign is a set of aligners that are custom made according to your needs. The aligners are replaced one after the other until the desired straightening is achieved. With Invisalign, you can even get a 3D treatment plan, and you can see how your teeth will look when the treatment is completed.
Advantages of Invisalign
The main advantage of this alignment system is its invisible appearance. When you are wearing them, no one will notice it as they are clear and nearly invisible. Also, they are specially made for your teeth. The absence of metal and rubber bands make them more comfortable to wear than traditional braces. This means, no more pain and bruises inside your mouth. They are also removable, which makes it easier for you to eat and drink. This, will in turn, ensure better hygiene. Moreover, the effectiveness of the treatment has been scientifically proven.
How it Works
First, your dentist will take the impressions of your teeth. These impressions are sent to the Invisalign laboratories to make a model aligner for your teeth. Your dentist will then form a virtual 3D treatment plan and decides every step of your treatment. Based on the model aligner, custom made aligners are made at the laboratory. The entire treatment usually needs 18 to 36 aligners, and the treatment extends 9 to 18 months. Again, the duration varies among patients. The aligners need to be replaced every 4 to 6 weeks.
When is Invisalign Used
Invisalign is indicated in cases of misalignment of teeth, including overcrowding, cross bite, overbite, under bite, and widely spaced teeth. Overcrowding occurs when there isn't enough space in your jaw. If the space in your jaw is more than needed, your teeth will be widely spaced. The misalignment of both of your jaws will result in cross bite. The presence of a larger upper jaw will lead to overbite, and the presence of a larger lower jaw will lead to under bite. All these cases can lead to tooth decay and diseases of the gum later in life. These common misalignments of the teeth can be easily corrected using Invisalign braces.
