Invisible Dad 4
We came back home. When I got off the train, I saw dad standing outside of the station and waving his hand to us. He looked so happy and grateful that when mum and I came to him, he hugged me tightly. It made me embaressed that I broke away from him immediately. He was not angry at all but smiled at mum saying that I had grown up to be a big girl. I turned my eyes away from him and avoided to see his eyesight. What happened in my grandparents' home left shadows on my heart so that I had no courage to face my dad as normally as before. Who was he this man I called dad? Do I really understand him? My grandpa's voice circled around my mind, "he is a thief, a man stealing the panerai watch!" "Meimei, come here." Mum called me. Dad had gone to a fruit stall to buy some oranges for me. Mum spoke to me seriouly in a low voice, "your dad is not a theif. Meimei, I know you have many questions but please don't show it before your dad." "Mum, you think that my reaction will hurt dad but have you any idea that you and dad have hurt me? I am your child, a member of the family. I have the right to know the truth. So prove me that dad is not the thief who stole the panerai watch. Tell me what grandpa said is a lie." I insisted on what I have said leaving mum astounded.
"What's wrong with my two girls?" dad came back with several oranges in a bag. "Meimei, have an orange. You must be thirsty." Dad gave me an orange. "No, I am thirsty at all." I turned my back on him and went straight to the bus station. "Walk slowly, Meimei." Mum said. Arriving at home, I came to my bedroom and closed the door. Dad must be puzzled by my behavior but I had no intention to explain to him. Mum and dad went to their room. What idea would they think of to cheat me again? They were two liers. I felt that I was abandoned by my parents and now I was a rival of them. It hurt me deeply. Sitting at my bed, I remembered the time that dad told stories to me. I loved that dad, the man who brought me joy and happiness but not sorrow and pain. Several hours later, I heard the door of my parents' bedroom opened and dad came to my room. He said outside, "Meimei, I must tell you the truth. Dad is a theif and I trully stole a panerai watch." Then it came mum's crying voice.
