Ip Telephony Systems For Your Office

When choosing a telephone system for your office

, you need to be sure that it is both reliable and provides great quality calls. Office phone systems are your path to communicating with colleagues, caring for your clients and drumming up new business - you need to ensure that yours is as efficient as it can be. It is also paramount that it does not cost the earth in terms of the bills you receive. IP telephony systems are becoming incredibly popular with businesses all over the world, favoured mainly for their ability to charge calls at a fraction of the rate of a traditional phone line.

What are IP Telephony Systems?

Put simply, IP telephony systems transmit voice over the space over the Internet, allowing users to carry out phone conversations. These calls avoid the public switched telephone network (PSTN) which traditional landline and mobile calls are transmitted through, and so also avoid the costs associated with standard phone calls. How it works is that a provider of IP telephony systems will charge a user a flat, once-monthly fee for their use of the system, regardless of whether long distance, International or local calls have been made, and how long the calls lasted. As you can imagine, this can save a business a lot of money, especially one that may regularly make International calls to clients, or colleagues abroad.

International calls made using a traditional, copper-wire phone line can be incredibly expensive, and IP telephony systems can be a godsend for such companies. IP telephony systems have been around for quite a while but it is only in the past five years or so that the technology has really taken off. In the years after its conception, it was plagued with inconsistencies and poor quality, plagued by dropped calls and patchy reception. In the first instances, it certainly wasn't viewed as a worthy rival to mobile and landline communications. However, in recent years the technology has grown and developed and most users now agree that IP telephony systems provide a better quality of call that their mobile and landline competitors.

Which IP Telephony Provider?

There are so many benefits of integrating IP telephony systems into your office environment that it is certainly not difficult to choose to make the switch from traditional landlines. It is deciding which IP telephony provider to go with that is a little trickier. The industry of IP telephony is advancing in such leaps and bounds that providers are appearing all the time, pushing their products in your face on a daily basis. If you are not an expert on the topic of IP telephony then it can often be very confusing and hard to decide which provider and which system is most suited to your business's needs.

There are two considerations that you need to make and the first is how much you can afford to spend on your new system. Stick within your budget. The second is which features you want from your system. They come with varying features and it is likely to be a waste of money if you buy a system with a stack of features that you just don't need.
