The History Of Irish Guards Clothing. The seventeenth of March is a religious holiday in Ireland known as Saint Patrick's day. People from many countries around the world know of this holiday and many celebrate the holiday. Saint Patrick lived in the time 387-461 AD and was known as as one of the patron saints of Ireland. Originally, it was a Catholic holiday and it has now evolved into a celebration of Irish culture. Even the Irish guards who wear Irish guards clothing hold this day in high esteem.

Certain countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Great Britain and Argentina celebrate this famous holiday. On that day many people choose to wear clothing that is green in color. While the history of this patron of saints is somewhat scarce, what is known about him is interesting.

Saint Patrick was born in Roman Britain in the fourth century. His family was wealthy and his grandfather and father were both deacons of the church. When he was sixteen, Irish raiders kidnapped him and took him to be a slave and it is believed that he was held captive on the west coast Ireland.

He claims that God told him to flee in a dream and return to Britain. When he did this, he joined the church and studied to become a priest. In the year four hundred and thirty two he went back to his native country to spread the news of Christianity. Folklore has it that he used the shamrock to explain the Trinity to the people of Ireland.

Saint Christopher died on the seventeenth of March four hundred and sixty one after spreading the Word of God for thirty years. This saint is held in high esteem by the people of Ireland. Even though other people had more successful campaigns, Saint Patrick is regarded as the champion of Christianity in that part of the world.

While many people associate the color green with this saint, the original color was actually blue. In time this actually changed to green and people stated wearing shamrocks and green ribbons to celebrate this day every year. The people wore shamrocks as he used this to explain the Trinity to the people.

It was in seventeen ninety eight that Irish soldiers wore green uniforms in order to raise awareness of the 1798 rebellion. Wearing of the green referred to people who wore shamrocks in memory of him. There was even a song that was written about this.

Ireland declared Saint Patrick's Day an official holiday in 1903. This was largely due to the Bank Holiday Act of 1903. Later on it became law that bars and pubs would close on the seventeenth of March as the people would get out of hand on that day. This law was eventually repealed in the nineteen seventies. In nineteen thirty one the the Saint Patrick's Day parade was celebrated for the first time. While this has become a secular day of celebration it is still very much a religious holiday in the Church of Ireland and the Roman Catholic Church. It is thanks to the rebellion all those years ago that soldiers wore Irish guards clothing on that auspicious day.Irish Guards Clothing
