Iron has been a natural metal for thousands of years

, it does not start out like the iron we are used to seeing but after the oxygen is removed from the iron ore it is then the iron metal that is more familiar to most. People have made things out of iron for centuries, from weapons and shields to decorative art and iron doors.

Today, iron is still used for many things, so many in fact that you are probably not even aware of how much iron is around you. Most noted, iron is commonly used in construction for making beams which helps support large buildings and structures. For long spans across open spaces where there is a lot of space without much support, an iron beam is much more durable than a wooden beam.

Other uses today are found in hand tools, guns, art, and so many things we use on a daily basis. Some people make a living as a skilled iron maker. There are companies across the country that will heat and shape iron into most anything that people will buy. You may have seen an iron gate used at the front of a huge house or property. This can provide a focal point for the home and also give a sense of security.

Iron doors are also made on a daily basis. Many Irish pubs use iron doors at their front entrance and some people have used that idea to create a welcome area into a home bar or sports room. Instead of an iron gate someone may have iron custom fit to their doors and windows for security reasons. The iron is heated up and hammered into the proper shape and length many times until a complete window covering is made.

Though iron is very hard, after it is heated to a certain temperature, it can be manipulated quite easily with the right tools. It takes a lot of skill and experience to make iron do what you want it to but it can be twisted and curled to make very detailed and beautiful pieces of art. To see an iron gate or expensive custom iron doors being made can be a very neat experience. It takes a long time to create something like that with iron but the results can be well worth the effort.

Iron has a way of creating a mid evil type of design which can work quite well with some structures. It can also be heated and designed to look more contemporary like what might be used throughout a design in a church or a mansion. Iron is not going anywhere, as it is very abundant and is mined on a daily basis. When it is maintained and kept clean and free from rust, iron can last an extremely long time. It may be a bit expensive to begin with but an iron piece like an iron gate or iron doors can be well worth the investment as it provides a very unique look along with security and safety.
