Iron Or Steel As The Best Material For Doors

A door is the part of a structure that protects it from penetration by unwanted elements

such as pollution, temperature, strong wind, rain and the like. Nevertheless, even if its main function is to close off and protect the structure, a door is still the most penetrable part. It should be designed well for its best use.

Unlike walls, which are fixed structures, doors are specifically designed to be semi-fixed and look like a temporary wall. It can be installed in different ways using different various like hinged, sliding, folding and rotating depending on the number of people it serves with respect to time. However, door stability and impenetrableness do not depend on its type but on the material it is made of.

Most doors today are made of either wood or glass panels framed by metal. Wooden doors are usually found used in residential houses while glass doors are in commercial buildings. Some residential houses now use glass doors for safety purposes in order to avoid finger traps or accidental smacking of an object or a person on the other side. Nonetheless, if ultimate strength is a top priority for doors, the best material is iron or steel.

Iron or steel doors are used in highly restricted areas such as prison, mental institution, and banks. Metal, possessing the most durable, strong, hard and formable properties, are used in facilities like this as iron entry doors. The use of iron doors for maximum security cannot be discounted. They can be in the form of bars held equidistant and parallel to each other, supported by bigger framing pars hinged at either end of a concrete wall.

However, some residential houses prefer iron entry doors not only for their yard gates but also for their external and internal house doors. They believe that metal does not only possess extreme protective properties but esthetic qualities as well. It can be molded to different shapes and formed to create an outstanding design not applicable to other materials like wood or glass.

Furthermore, while iron or steel is recyclable, it has a lower value than wood or glass. iron entry doors are also more resistant to heat during a fire incident. It can last without melting depending on the substances alloyed. There are cases that iron doors from a burn house can still be used for a new house because it was not significantly damaged.
