Are you going to get out of it what you put into it? There are many things to consider when you are selecting a college and price is usually at the top of the list. Since many students need loans to complete their education, the cost of a college's expenses is a huge consideration.

It has been shown that you a college degree from a low cost state school is just as good as a degree from an expensive private school. You are going to be paying about 2% of the total amount of your loan as a payment each month. So, if you have $50,000 in student loans you are looking at a payment of $1,000 each month for up to 20 years. If you are willing to endure many years of loan payments, you can have an education at any number of schools.

Ten years down the road, how important will the school you attended by to you? Since a college education is pretty much a necessity, economical is a good option for most students. If you can start out at a two year community college, you can save a lot of money. Just make sure that the credits will transfer to the four year college of your choosing.

Four year state schools that are located in your state of residence will offer the best value for your money. At the end of the day the goal is to get a college degree in the major of your choice and not to have a bill at the end of it all that you will spend decades repaying. Having a degree from a well known prestigious school is great, but is it really worth having a large payment for the next 20 years?
