Is An All in One Computer Right for You?

With netbooks that are beefed up with additional power and devices like the iPad

, many companies are attempting to replace many smaller gadgets and become an all in one type device. Although it's an interesting thought, do people even want just one device?

There are advantages to having one device. When traveling or going about around town, you can carry just one thing that will do most of your needs having your basic applications that you use on the go. This makes it simply since you don't have to manage multiple devices which will take up more space, add more weight, and have to be individually managed. The problem is that there isn't really a device that meets all of these standards yet that is simple to use, easy to carry around, and legitimately lasts the whole day.

One issue with the all in one device is battery life. When you have multiple gadgets to do individual functions like an mp3 player, ebook reader, gps device, and others, these tend to have their own battery source and last for hours. The more a device does, typically the less it's on. Even smart phones after turning off multiple features are struggling to have a full day's worth of power.

Individual devices will do exactly what they are supposed to do. An ebook reader like the Kindle stays on for weeks, is simple to use, and has an electronic ink screen which is easy to read. It offers a better experience as an ebook reader than other devices like netbook or phones. Each individual device will do a better job for each function since that is what it is made to do.

It's going to take a device that can compete with each feature offered on other devices before it will make a quality all in one device. Consumers are not going to want a device of a series of second best while there are others that do a better job individually. Time will only tell if such a device is going to come out to do all these tasks without having the drawbacks.
