Liposuction of the arm is performed in a number of steps. When you first come in for your surgery, the doctor will make a number of markings on your upper arm in pen. During the surgery, the doctor will make an incision in your arm and insert a special hollow needle called a cannula into the fatty tissue. By moving the cannula back and forth, the doctor will break up and suction out the fat.

Although there are a number of different liposuction methods out there, the most common is called the tumescent method. This method injects large amounts of liquids into the arm in order to make the fat swell, which will make it easier to remove. The tumescent fluids include painkillers and help to control blood loss.

After your surgery, your surgeon may suggest that you wear a compression garment on your arm to help aid in the healing process. You should wear this as your surgeon directs you so as to maximize your aesthetic benefit from your surgery.

The excess fluids introduced during surgery will drain out from your incisions in the days following your surgery. Post-surgical swelling, bruising and pain are fairly common, although these go down with time.

As the swelling goes down, you will be able to see the results of your surgery. If all has gone well, your arms should appear trimmer and younger than before.
