An Avon Review - Is Avon A Scam Or Legitimate Company

? Is it really necessary to ask this? Avon ladies, Avon products, and "Avon calling" advertising have been part of the American scene for well over a century. Currently, it conducts business world-wide, and is the world's largest direct-marketing company.

The Avon Company was founded in 1886, with the original name of "California Perfume Company". (Ironically, it was begun in New York, not California.) Mr. David McConnell, its founder, was a door-to-door book salesman. To entice ladies into buying his books, he would give them a bottle of perfume. But, as it turned out, the perfume became more popular than the books. So, Mr. McConnell got out of the book business and founded his new company to market the perfume. His first sales representative was Mrs. P. F. E. Albee. In 1939, the company name was changed to Avon.

Avon markets a wide selection of fragrances, cosmetics, skin care products and jewelry for women, men, and children. More recently, they've begun to sell children's toys. A lot of the products are novelty items, which they only sell on a seasonal basis.

Avon representatives with more than either $10,100, $20,200, $38,000, $66,500, $112,000, or $280,000 in annual sales will become members of either The Presidents Club, The Honor Society, The Rose Circle, The McConnell Club, The Presidents Council, or the Inner Circle, respectively.

A new Avon representative will receive a fifty percent commission on her first four sales campaigns. Then, the rate will be anywhere from twenty percent to fifty percent, depending on how big the order is. For orders that are larger than $1550, the commission is fifty percent. New members of the Presidents Club will get forty percent for the next year. New Rose Club members will get forty-five percent for the next year.

Avon originally used a normal, single-level direct-marketing model. It only recently started using the Multi-Level-Marketing approach.
