Is Bad Breath Your Problem?
Popping mints and gargling with mouthwash every now and then is a temporary solution
to bad breath! This problem is usually deep rooted and has to do with much more than mere eating bad food. If a person suffers from bad breath issues, it can really become uncomfortable for people not just around him or her but also for the person himself. Social awkwardness sets in, society problems creep in, confidence levels goes down, friends and family distance themselves and many a times, jobs are at stake!
So is this problem a mere Listerene away or should it be dealt with as a serious issue? Well, sometimes temporary bad breath happens before of eating certain foods like onion (contains sulfur compounds). But in most cases, it is a serious issue and hence needs to be dealt with properly and head on. It is one of the "taboo" and "uncomfortable" social issues and a health problem, but sooner it goes away, better it is for the person!
Well, research shows that food gets broken down by certain kind of bacteria (present towards the back of your tongue). These bacteria break it down into volatile sulfur compounds. Now, bad breath is caused because of these compounds but if bad breath becomes a persistent problem it is because of the number of bacteria present than necessary.
Research also shows that alcohol containing mouthwash should be avoided because it dries out the mouth and may adversely affect the growth of these bacteria. Bad breath is caused by the bacteria when your mouth is dry and the mouthwash (with alcohol) renders it dry! Try the alcohol free mouth wash for temporary satisfaction! It contains chlorine dioxide which kills the bad breath and does not make the mouth dry!
A regular oral hygiene goes a long way in ensuring the eradication of bad breath and also is great for your gums, tongue and teeth. A regular floss and brush schedule (repeated after meals) is a great idea. Research shows that the bacteria reside on the tongue and hence tongue hygiene and regular cleaning is equally important.
Instead of a regular brush, try using a tongue scrapper especially for tongue and see the results.
There are many other things you can do and modify in your life which will leave your breath fresh and nice - brush, floss, eating yogurt, chew a sugarless gum, eat healthy food, drink lot of water, avoid tobacco etc.!
Overall, a healthy lifestyle is necessary for any kind of hygiene and a fresh smell!
