Is Colon Cleansing Recommended While Breastfeeding

There is some confusion on whether one can perform colon cleansing and breastfeeding at the same time

. While nursing, one can perform colon cleansing to remove all the toxins, clean out the body and reduce food cravings which are so much a part of a new mothers life.

Of the various colon cleansing options, choosing natural colon cleansers is a wise decision. Majority of the products in the market promise instant results. However, some of these products also contain chemicals, which would not only eliminate harmful waste matter from the body but might also remove the necessary elements (such as good bacteria) within the intestines. The other risk of colon cleansing and breastfeeding is that the chemicals present in these cleansers could enter the mothers milk and pose a risk to the baby. Hence, most physicians advise that it is best not to perform colon cleansing and breastfeeding together. It is the best to use all natural products, if one wants to go ahead with it.

Dietary Changes

By changing food habits and incorporating high amounts of fiber as part of the diet, you can perform colon cleansing in natural way. Hence, by having more vegetables, green leafy vegetables, fresh fruits, legumes, cereals, whole grains and nuts; you can aid the colon in eliminating waste matter from the body faster. Also, drinking plenty of water, fruit and vegetable juices as well as incorporating a small amount of healthy oils and fats in the diet will work to lubricate and soften the stool. Doing so, enable the body to pass waste more easily.

Risks to the Baby

Doing colon cleansing and breastfeeding at the same time could pose some risks to the baby. Many colon cleansers tend to remove toxins and healthy matter from the body at the same time. This can be harmful for the baby especially if the mother intends to breastfeed her baby. Also, there is a risk of becoming dehydrated which will make it difficult for the body to produce milk.

Event though colon cleanse is beneficial to the body, most physicians recommend to stop breastfeeding your baby before undertaking the process.
