Is Divorce In Your Future?
You already know that about half of all marriages end in divorce
. Maybe you feel like your marriage is on the rocks and divorce is in the near future. How can you know for sure?
There are all sorts of red flags you can watch that will indicate the end of your marriage could be near. To get a little more clarity on the fate of your marriage, you can ask yourself these questions.
* Which feeling is stronger: my love for my spouse or resentment? One of the surest signs that a marriage is falling apart is when feelings of love and patience have been replaced with resentment and contempt. When you harbor those feelings, your marriage will start to wither away very quickly, and if you let it wither away too far, you wont be able to get it back.
* How often do we fight? Look, every couple fights. Its almost unavoidable. But theres a big difference between having an occasional spat with your spouse and having knockout, dragout fights on a daily basis. Screaming, name-calling, and throwing things at one another shouldnt be a normal daily activity. So, if youre fighting with your spouse often, divorce very well may be in your future.
* Are we able to work through our marital problems? Youre not always going to agree with your spouse, but healthy couples can typically work through their problems with some degree of success. When it gets to the point that the two of you simply cant work through your problems, even with the help of a counselor, your marriage could be headed toward divorce.
* 0Is one or both of us having an affair? Marital infidelity is one of the leading causes of divorce, but many couples do their best to work through affairs or even ignore them, pretending theyre not taking place. But rest assured, no marriage can last when one or both parties are still engaging in extramarital affairs.
* When my spouse comes home, do I try to avoid being in the same room with them? Have things gotten so bad that you find yourself going out of your way to avoid being near your spouse? Do you feel like you just dont want to see them or hear their voice? Thats hardly a sign of a healthy marriage filled with love. Its more likely the sign of a broken marriage where divorce is looming on the horizon.
* Are the children starting to react to the stress of our marriage? If the constant fighting between you and your spouse has started to affect your children, you have to take a step back right now and really consider the health of your marriage. You absolutely cannot let your fighting hurt your kids, so at this point, you need to seriously consider your options.
If you truly believe that you might need to consider filing for divorce, you should at least contact a Palm Beach divorce attorney for an initial consultation to discuss your options.
