Is Exercising On An Empty Stomach Good Or Bad For The Health?

When you talk about health, one thing that comes to your mind is exercise

. Everybody knows how important exercise is. But there are only a few people who know the right methods of exercise. There are oodles of myths about exercise. Let us discuss one of them. Most of you would have come across in a lot of books and videos that say exercising on empty stomach burns more calories than doing it on a normal little food-filled stomach. There are lots of sources that say the complete opposite way. Some people are of the view that exercising on an empty stomach is harmless while some say it solely depends on your body type. Which is true?

As a gym regular myself, I watch a lot of health and fitness programs on my TV and oodles of videos online. Both my TV and Internet connections are powered by amazing deals rendered by one of the trusted service providers in my area. I would say that exercising on an empty stomach is not good for the health. To support my statement, I have compiled a few interesting points in the succeeding paragraphs. Scroll down and discover the truth.

The primary reason why I say exercising on an empty stomach is not beneficial for the health is because when you do your workouts before having food, you feel more tired and exhausted as there is very little energy in your body. It may seem as though you are burning a lot of excess calories but the after effect is not going to be fruitful. After you come back with a light body from exercising on an empty stomach the food that you consume will refill almost all the calories that you burnt. The body that is too short of energy supply tends to take in more calories from the food after a strenuous workout.

If you need some science, then keep in your mind that there is something called adenosine triphosphate (ATP) that supplies the muscles with energy. The ATP gets it energy from glucose present in the body which in turn is derived from the carbohydrates. When you do your workouts without having any food there will be shortage of fat in the body and all the protein that is available will be used up. This will leave you exhausted very soon. If you are not a healthy person then you might even fall sick the same day due to over tiredness. Always keep in mind not to push yourself beyond the limits.

As mentioned briefly earlier, when you exercise on an empty stomach, there will be a shortage of fat and carbohydrates. During this time, the ATP will derive its energy from the proteins already stored in the muscles. Thus the protein does the role of fat in the body. When the protein is used up, it might lead to drop in muscle mass and over tiredness. Lack of proteins might also lead to a bunch of other problems including sudden hair fall and weakness. Some gym regulars have the habit of jogging on empty stomach in the morning and hitting the gym in the evening lifting the weights. If your degree of workout is higher then there is a probability that you might not find good results for whatever workout you do in the gym. The results are likely to be slower and meaner.

Things to do

If your goal is only to reduce weight then I would suggest having a light low-calorie diet would be beneficial for your health. However, if you are a gym regular then consume more protein shakes before your workouts and break your meals into smaller ones.
