Is Internet Marketing Hype The Death Of Your Success Or A Diamond In The Rough?
Usually the conversation runs something like the following: "I bought a product that is going to make me $12
,321.53 in seven days!" "Hah, I had that piece of garbage, but I traded it up for one that will make me $63,631.74 in four days" Does this all sound familiar to you? It may not be about the money entirely, it may be about the amount of work it promises, but on some level it has probably happened in your own head before. It's the trap of hype.
Hype is strangely alluring. It is hard to compare to that feeling you get when you first buy a product you believe will change your financial destiny. It is an injection of euphoria. The absurd results they show make you think that if you can even come close to that you're sitting pretty. These figures are real, to be assured, but it leads you into a mindset that is ultimately deadly.
This expectation makes you feel like a failure if you only make a few sales, when in actuality that's a monumental accomplishment you should praise yourself for. Just understand how you did it and either replicate it several times or scale it. Perhaps after a few tries you notice that there was something you didn't need to do or something you could tweak. Keep this mentality and you'll be wildly successful sooner than you know. It boils down to finding something that works, asking why it worked, and then scaling it. Too much hype has lead to many marketers, overflowing with potential, to quit though.
Hype's seduction can also tear our attention from one course or product to another, causing a split of our time and attention. There is a time to seek new learning, and that is after you know the course you already have. You don't truly know anything unless you've put it to action successfully.
Can There Be a Use for Hype...?
In most cases hype is bad, but I've found a way to harness it to help me succeed. Reading a sales letter always puts me in the state of mind to get ready to do some work. I get the product and I begin consuming every lesson therein.
The excitement lasts a limited amount of time though, and then it is gone. Why is that? The product is just as good as it was when I was excited about it. Maybe I got lost in the routine and forgot what it could do for me.
Whatever the reason, recently, I've bookmarked the sales letters of the products I am buying so I can go back, read them, and get excited about what I have and what I am doing again. This keeps me moving forward whenever my motivation is lacking. Give it a shot for yourself. Excitement will win out over overwhelm every time.
