Is It A Good Idea To Advertise In The Yellow Pages?
Is it still effective to advertise your business in the Yellow Pages
, or is this a form of advertisement that has gone to the wayside? The Yellow Pages originally began in the late 1800s as a way for consumers to reach the few businesses that had invested in the newfangled invention called a telephone. As the years passed and phones became more common and businesses expanded, the need for the phonebook as a form of advertisement grew as well.
Fast forward to the present when we live in a high-tech age where even school children have smart phones, iPods, and personal laptop computers. How consumers are getting their information has changed. Newspapers are slowly falling to the wayside as consumers get their news in a more timely and up-to-date manner through the Internet. Even magazines and books, which will probably never completely fade away, have found their way onto the Internet through personal readers.
If you have a business to advertise, you obviously want to get the most from your advertising dollar. The question is where are you going to get the most value from your advertising. The Yellow Pages have not been sitting on their laurels watching time go by. This is at least one of the older standby forms of advertising that has been on the cutting edge of leading consumers with technology. Instead of the traditional paperbound phonebook, the Yellow Pages has gone interactive and on the Internet.
What this means for consumers is a source of information to find a business that is more realistic and in keeping with consumer demand. Instead of just pulling up a phone number and address in the traditional phonebook, consumers can now pull up the website and even map on the Internet from the Yellow Pages ad for a particular business.
The interactive phonebooks even allow consumers to send information directly to their phones and to directly send e-mails to a business from their ads. This is an effective tool to keep consumers interacting with a business instead of just looking at a paper ad. The traditional paperbound phonebook is still around and it is still in use. Sometimes, believe it or not, consumers do not have access to their smart phones or the Internet and have to rely on the old standby paperbound phonebook to look up information.
So is it a good idea to advertise your business in the phonebook in this day and age? It would appear the answer is yes, the phonebook is still an effective way to advertise and reach a wide number of consumers through not just one source of information but multiple sources, including the traditional and the technological.
This is been a form of advertising that has been around since its original invention in the late 1800s and it appears to be a form of advertising that will continue to stick around for a little while longer.
