Is It Genes Or Environment That Predict Scientist?

When it comes to science there are lot of people who simply do not understand it

. When in school, these same people struggled to really understand the lessons that they were being taught about atoms, heat, energy, photo synthesis, etc. The concepts are just beyond their ability to really understand. There is no question that this is the case for many people.

So what is different about the person who does get it versus the person who does not? Why can they understand how the transfer of energy between two different and dissimilar pieces of metal can help us tell the temperature of something because we can tell the difference in the energy and how that then translates into units of heat that then can be sent to an output device to read into some numbers that the rest of us can understand and take action from? There is no doubt that the mind that understands these kinds of things is very different from the majority of society.

One of the things that some people have often wondered is if there are any predictors of this kind of mind ahead of time that might be a clue to the parents and the teachers really early in life that they are good candidates to be a scientist of some sort. Some have speculated that we may be able to tell by the books that they are naturally drawn to and read. Some think that science fiction novels and fantasy novels are often written by someone who has a similar mindset, especially the science fictions novels. If a child is easily drawn to that type of book, is that a predictor that they will be good at science things and be more likely to be good in a science related career? We do not know, but it certainly makes sense to us who are not of that same mindset.

However, at this time there is no real way to know if it is genes or if it is circumstances, such as their environment at home and their parents who may be the same way in terms of how they think. In other words, is it the genes that are causing them to be good at science or is it the fact their parents are good at it and are able to teach them the science mindset. Whichever it is, it is important that we continue to raise scientists in this world to improve our living conditions.
