Is it actually possible to potty train your boy in one day

? Many appear to think so, and if you search the internet, you'll find numerous testimonials from people who say they've done it. You will also find skeptics who believe that the supposed success rate of this type of toilet training is only achieved because its proponents narrowly define that "one day" to exclude results that might contradict their claim. They might say that bowel movements "don't count" or that the one-day success only means daytime potty control.

The basic idea of potty training in one day is that you tell the child in advance that this is the day he'll stop wearing diapers and start wearing "big kid" underwear. You devote the entire day to your child, plying him with his favorite food and drink so that at several points during the day, he'll need to use the potty.

Each time, you take him to the bathroom and he learns how to do his business there instead of in a diaper. You train him intensively, perhaps using visual aids as well, like picture books or a doll. By the end of the day, he is supposedly potty trained.

While those for whom this method works are very enthusiastic, others who can't potty train their child this way have ended up having unpleasant, sometimes almost traumatic experiences. Despite using all the available potty training aids and having the day made into a party, some children felt as though they were in trouble all day, while others felt self-conscious and worried. What all this seems to indicate is that you should potty train your child according to the method that suits him and his temperament the best. The same things that become factors with other methods of potty training a boy come into play here as well. For example, given that boys tend to learn this process somewhat later than girls, is your child even old enough to be ready? It may be that the reason the "one day" method works so well is the same reason why any other method would work; the child is simply ready to learn to use the potty.
