Is It Possible To Stop Shipments Mid Transit?

The communication that now exists between a courier and their dispatch office has

increased the amount of adaptation that is going to be possible mid route for a delivery person. The average Miami delivery service is not going to have vehicles that are equipped with cell phones, GPS devices, handheld courier scanners, and possibly a laptop. All this technology means that courier is easy to contact by a half dozen different means at any point during their route.

In the older days of courier companies, this was not the case at all. Before the invention of the cell phone, couriers would keep in touch by radio; something that was only useful within certain ranges and while they were in their vehicles. This greatly reduced the ways that you could suddenly put in a request to change, alter, or stop your shipment.

Now that the courier dispatch offices can reach their field agents instantly, it has become easier for them to stop any shipment that you might be sending while it is en route if that is what you wish. However, there are reasons why you may want to avoid this if possible. Not the least of those is the cost.

When you stop a shipment while it is on its way to its destination, you are going to have to pay to have the item shipped back to you. This means that you're essentially going to have to pay to ship the item twice, both to the customer, and back to you. That is because even when you cancel the order, they are not going to rush the package back to you in most cases, but will instead have to finish their run and then come back to your location when it is convenient.

There is also going to be another cost on top of that in almost every case. In addition to the added shipping charges, most couriers will charge you an extra fee or surcharge for stopping an order. Most couriers do this for any special requests or alterations to a plan once it has been set up.

Stopping your shipment shouldn't be too hard if you've decided it's worth the cost. Usually, a quick phone call to the courier is all it will take to have the order not dropped off as previously planned. You may also be able to enter a stop request online, or via email.
