Is It Time For Jello?

Have you ever wondered who eats the most jello in the world

? You may be surprised to find out that the state of Utah is the proud claimant to that title. For whatever reason jello is a mainstay in Utah and is served in a lot of meals. One of the reasons that this gelatin dessert is served a lot in Utah is probably because it is cheap and easy to fix. In Utah, the average family size is much larger than anywhere else in the country. Another reason that this may be the case is because of the teachings of the Mormon church to be frugal and to live within their means. Good advice, but is particularly important considering the amount of mouths there are to feed in the typical home of a latter Day Saint. Consequently, the jello makes a lot of sense and thus, Utah leading the nation in jello consumption also makes a lot of sense.

Many people would say that gelatin desserts, such as jello, tend to be healthier as well for a dessert choice. This is to make this assumption when compared to chocolate cake, apple pies, ice cream and other common desserts. However, it is truly one of the better desserts to have. However, most often it is not eaten as a dessert, but as part of the meal. That means that a dessert is being eaten in addition to the jello and therefore, it is not helping in a more healthy choice for a dessert.

There have been a lot of jokes made about jello over the years. One of the funny jokes recently came from a well known comedian named Jeff Foxworthy. He teased about the fact that the jello is made from a powder and comes out liquid until it is refrigerated and then once it is jello it can never go back to liquid. Many things that were liquid and then become solid, can be made liquid again with some heat. However, jello, he teases, is not the same way.

Whether you are a fan of jello or not, there is no denying that it has had a place in this country for some time at the dinner table. Kids love to eat jello for dinner. This is so much the case, that sometimes that is the only thing off the dinner plate that they will eat. The next time that you child wants more jello, just remember that it contains a lot of proteins and is healthier than a lot of things that they eat.
