Is It Too Late To Pursue Your College Degree?

You and I have been told since we were kids that getting a college degree will get us better jobs with better pay and more respect and stability

. Yes with the economy in the dumps this year and layoffs this may be somewhat untrue, but for the most part the rules apply just like they did 20 years ago. Many of us are tuned to start our degree programs at 18 right after high school. Maybe you got sidetracked somehow by going in the military first then getting lucky and getting a decent paying job that didn't require a degree. Next thing you know 10-15 years went by and you're almost 40 now.

For whatever reason you never finished your degree or maybe haven't even started. You realize you're too old to work construction or your restaurant manager job is just too stressful and is starting to take its toll. So you decide it might be time to finally buckle down and finish your college degree. One thing you need to remember is that it's never too late to finish your degree, even at 65. It's all about the mindset because college professors treat each student these days exactly the same. If you believe in yourself you can finish your degree and go out there and compete with the young folks doing the same thing and contribute to society.

The purpose of a college degree is to give you know general knowledge and give you a skill you can earn money with for the rest of your life. As an older college student you have an aggregation of life experiences many youngsters just don't have. After finishing college you will also be an overall better person and learn the skills you need to compete in todays fast paced and demanding society. The truth is many (but not all) of the younger college students these days are flakes and frequently miss class and don't get their homework assignments in on time. They also have the ability to prioritize their tasks and schedule their study time, tricks they've learned from experience.

There are more educational options now than there were 20 years ago. They have many community college classes that are broadcasted on local TV, then you just go in and occasionally take proctored examinations and tests or to turn in homework. Classes are also offered at more convenient times, like evenings for people who work full time and weekends which will help anyone squeeze a class or two in per semester no matter how busy they are. And with the birth of the internet schools even offer on-line classes which will allow you to take the entire course while at home. So no matter what your schedule is it's never too late to finish school.

And remember even if you disagree with the state college tuition costs, you can pursue an associates degree at your local community college in a high demand field. In many cases you can get comparable jobs as students that finish with 4 year degrees at a state university with comparable respect and pay. It's never too late to reach your goals.
