Is Kayaking Only For Rich People?
Many people worldwide own their own kayaks resulting in people of varying age groups getting to view kayaking as a favorite pastime
. Considering the financial crisis almost all are going through, a lot may come to the conclusion that kayaking isn't a the sport for them and is merely a waste of money. They keep their minds on all the various kayaking gear needed and the cost of traveling to find the best lakes and rivers so they decide to find another sport instead. Is this factual? Just how expensive is Kayaking?
*Your kayak- make up your mind on how the kayak will be used. For exploring, fishing or just recreation? Good for one or two people? A used kayak may only cost around $100 whereas one from a branded shop will be as expensive as $4000. The Eddyline Whisper Double Sea Kayak for instance can be found online for $1,300 whereas a new Sea eagle 380X Deluxe Kayak for only $873.99. If you have your purpose clear in mind you can easily find one that fits your budget.
* The Gear- clothing that is water proof and covers your entire body, some floating device, a medical kit, suitable shoes and water resistant bag. These are very affordable especially online where an amount of $500.00 should do.
* Location- going abroad just to find a nice place to kayak isn't actually needed. The first time I tried it, it was on a nearby river and believe me, the scenery was fantastic! You get to see the caves, you can stop over and take a swim if you like and do some rapids for some thrill. For those who want kayaking to be a family activity, a river or lake just around the corner will be sufficient. However, if you're more inclined to extreme kayaking with heart-thumping rapids then famous locations like Glacier Bay, San Juan Islands and Down East Islands are your best bet.
If you're planning for kayaking to become a long-term hobby, it's advisable that you spend on your kayak since that is basically the most expensive thing you'd be buying. Just don't go beyond your budget.
After you get your kayak, the rest is simply maintaining it. Caring for your kayak well will mean less repairs and more savings. Regarding gear, some kayak gear is really not so useful and are simply there to give a 'cool' look so think twice before purchasing. Never purchase something not really needed. Just make sure you have the complete safety gear! Have a medical kit on hand at all times and avoid removing your safety vest.
Well, if you've wanted to try kayaking out, I'd highly recommend it! Kayaking is an ideal hobby.
