Very often you will hear people telling you how obsessed they are with music. Music is one thing that binds millions of people across the world. People go crazy when it comes to music. Today Mp3s and Ipods is the new 'in' thing. But just like it is said,'Too much of anything, ain't good'; music is great as a hobby, not as an obsession. Listening to music all day long can be fatal to our ears. One of the major reasons of deafness among people is their ears being exposed to continuous sounds of high decibel. Often people are so absorbed in listening to music that they tend to ignore the many other things that life offers. Many accidents on roads take place because of listening to music. Drivers tend to get so absorbed into music that, although they are driving their minds are off the roads. Pedestrians also tend to get so absorbed into their Ipods and Mp3s that they fail to hear the honking on a vehicle coming in their direction. This does not mean that music is some kind of jinx that covers a person and ruins their life. If one knows their limits, music can be a blessing in disguise. Music has also been a part and parcel of the meditation process. Among the various therapies introduced in order to reduce stress and calm the mind, music therapy is the most popular one. Can you remember the 'ABCD nursery rhyme' and the famous 'London Bridge is falling down' that we happily chanted as kids? Right from childhood, music is made a part of our syllabus in schools. The reason is, it is easier to remember things when it is sung out to you. This also explains how even people with low memories are able to remember the lyrics of songs by their favorite artists.

Why do people listen to music? Because music has got magic in it, that can make even your dullest moment seem fun. Music surely is a boon. However if you don't know your limits, it won't take time for this boon to transform into a curse!
