Mayfair is probably one of London's most famous areas. Christened following the annual fortnight-long May Fair that took place in the area, Mayfair is now one of the most fashionable, high profile districts to live and work in the whole of the United Kingdom. Bought to the world's attention by the ever-popular Monopoly board game; Mayfair has established itself as one of the most illustrious locations to base a business in the world, but is there more to the area than just being the mostly highly sought after square on a board game?
Mayfair falls under the London postcode of W1 and is set roughly between Oxford Street, Regent Street, Piccadilly and Park Lane. The area's believed to have first been developed in the 17th century and is thought to have been a desirable place to live as far back as the 18th century.
The district lies in Westminster and is full of attractive parks and squares, some of the most famous being Berkeley Square, Brown Hart Gardens, Hanover Square, Grosvenor Square and Bryanston Square. The area is served well by London's extensive transport system and hosts a number of Underground stations, most notably Bond Street and Oxford Circus.
Mayfair commercial property is highly desirable and some of the most expensive offices in the West End can be found here.Mayfair office space has become a highly popular option for private banks, hedge funds and wealth managers as a commercial property venue outside of the City of London. Major Mayfair office tenants include Bestinvest and EasyGroup, while former tenants included Cadbury. The United States embassy is also based in Mayfair's Grosvenor Square.
In addition to quality housing and office space, Mayfair also boasts a number of tourist attractions. Famous Mayfair office buildings include Claridge's, the Dorchester Hotel, the Royal Academy of Arts and the Handel House Museum.
To sum up, it's safe to say Mayfair really is much more than a desirable location on a game board. Full of high quality office space, residential buildings, retail space and tourist attractions; Mayfair is a fashionable area of London which has a diverse appeal to people of all ages.
