Only after wasting time and money have they discovered that the whole issue was caused by a short in the cord.

You can pause them whenever you want to work on that step. The downside of this is that you will need to have a second computer. Never watch the video on the computer that you are working on. This could damage the machine and it could even put you in a dangerous position because you could be shocked. You need to watch these videos before starting the project, though, so that you can see what it will take. This will help you to know if it is something that you can handle.

Next, go online and see if you can find the parts that you need. This will often be very easy for a brand new computer, but it can be hard for an older machine. If you cannot find all of the parts, you cannot do the job. You will have to take the machine in to have a professional look at it. He or she may have other avenues to use to get parts, which you cannot utilize unless you hire the pro to do the work. If you can find all of the right parts, then you know that you can a least give this a try.

There is only one thing left to do. You need to read reports from other people who have tried to make the same repair. If you know someone who has done it, this is even better. Talk to him and see how everything worked out. If you do not know someone who has done it, though, you can find articles online that are basically just reviews of the project. The person will tell you everything that he or she did while working on the computer. You can use this as a guide if they accomplished what they set out to do. You can also take it as a warning, though. They may tell you that they only ended up making things worse so that the job cost a lot more in the end.
