There are different types of recycled plastic lumber. You have high density polyethylene, commingled RPL, fibre reinforced RPL and wood filled RPL. The high density polyethylene has numerous advantages and it is perfect for landscape and decking applications. This is also available in many different colours. However, there are some disadvantages to this time. One of the disadvantages is that the material has a lower stiffness than wood.

As for Commingled RPL, it is made from plastic that you can melt and remould. It consists of 80 to 90 percent polyethylene. This is also perfect for decking applications. The disadvantage would be that you can only choose birthstone colours and also with this one, the stiffness is slower than wood.

As for wood filled RPL, this would be sawdust that has been mixed in with fast. It usually consists of a mixture of 50 percent polyethylene and 50 percent sawdust or some other type of recycled fibre. With this one, there are many advantages. For example, it offers the best traction, less voids, rougher surface and is easier to paint. A disadvantage to this would be that it can absorb moisture and may not be insect resistant completely.

Fibre reinforced RPL is made out of plastic that has mixed in with strands of glass fibre. This type is different than the other types. It is perfect for support structures. Of course, it is less flexible than the others we have listed above. Also, it may irritate your skin.
