Is Success Your Responsibility?
Sounds like an odd question doesnt it! We have been told that success is our choice
, our right and a multitude of other descriptors but how often has it been suggested that it is our responsibility?
According to quantum physicists, religious gurus, philosophers, and even enlightened business leaders, we are all connected. And understanding that connection can be mind stretching at best. However if one compares the connection to that of a complicated piece of machinery or even the human body it is easy to understand that each person is as important to the successful operation of a working piece be it human or machine as is the next person. And like a watch when one piece stops working, the entire watch does not operate as it should. Even in the human body we are finding parts that were easily removed before parts like the appendix and tonsils which were once removed without much consideration we are now reconsidering their removal finding that they have more functions than we previously understood.
So why is success our responsibility?
Just as a watch needs to have all parts within it working properly in order to keep time people whom we serve our clients and potential clients also need us to function properly successfully.
What would happen to the single mother who needed a mortgage if there were not the empathetic and creative mortgage broker who was also a single mother there to help her find the mortgage she could afford?
What would happen to that cancer survivor if she could not connect with that cosmetic distributor who had also survived the same disease and understood the importance of chemical free cosmetics?
It has been said that a person is a person through other persons. This philosophy says that we are connected in all ways. What hurts you hurts me we are all part of the whole and interdependent. Taking this a little further, our success may depend upon or influence the success or even survival of others. Chances are great that our success will affect others in ways we may not even understand.
Do we have to?
Whether we choose to accept it or not even the smallest action we perform affects others. Some might think that this is an onerous duty then, that we have to perform to succeed that is. To chase success. To do all that we can do in our business or suffer the knowledge that our inability to continue will adversely affect those around us. Ok you could take it that way I suppose. However lets put different spin on it.
An opportunity?
Lets look at this from a different perspective the opportunity. If our success affects so many others this becomes our opportunity to affect change on our world. Often when working hard at whatever it is that we do we miss the understanding that the universe intends for us to succeed. We just need to ask for what we need when we need it. Just as it easier to keep a wheel turning and moving forward than it is to stop it so it is with all positive things that we do. There will always be friction where the rubber meets the road however with a little bit of energy we progress. And our progression is beneficial to us as well as others around us. The opportunities this presents are endless.
The world is progressing as it should and the doors of opportunity are opening whether we choose to go through them or not. Is success a choice? Yes. Is it a right? You decide. Is it a responsibility if you believe that we are all connected yes it is. But moreover it is an opportunity we can all access just for the asking.
