Is There More Than One Way To Cure The Ringing In My Ears?
When one asks, is there more than one way to cure the ringing in my ears
, I have to assume you have ringing in both ears. Whether one has ringing in both ears, or just one, you will have different options depending on the cause of your "Tinnitus". By the way, Tinnitus is the acknowledged term for the ringing in your ears.
The overall majority of people, who suffer with Tinnitus, got it from noise damage. If you got it at work, for example, a construction worker around noisy machines like jack hammers, or a police officer at the gun range, or a roady on a rock-in-roll concert tour, the decibel level of the noise is what kicks up your tinnitus. And the longer you are in that situation the closer you will get to losing your hearing if you don't take precautions by using ear plugs or some other prevention measure. Tinnitus sneaks up on you, and before you know it, you have a full blown, raging cacophony of sounds that can drive you mad. I know; I speak from experience. The ringing in my ears got so miserable I wanted to shoot myself, well maybe that's a little dramatic, but I hope you get the point. It'll drive you nuts, and the cure is determined by the cause.
So back to your question, when it comes to tinnitus caused by sound, one of the best ways to treat it, is with sound. There are many options from which to choose. There are sound machines, which mimic the sounds of nature, hypnosis classes and CD's, and new wave sound machines that provide the latest in computerized diagnostic and treatment technology for tinnitus. I have only used the machines that mimic natural sounds, but the other types of treatment are getting rave reviews, as well.
Dr. William Martin, Professor of Otolaryngology at the Oregon Health and Science University in Portland said "It's a very noisy world we live in today and all of our toys are noisier than ever. The consequences [to our hearing] will become permanent." The hearing loss in the younger generation, Dr. Martin believes, is due to their current lifestyle of loud music, video games, televisions, etc, and Dr. Martin believes that if left unchecked, will eventually make hearing loss and tinnitus as common as the common cold, everyone will have it.
Earwax, believe it or not is the next most common cause of ear ringing, or Tinnitus. Get it professionally removed if you can, because putting things in your ears that don't belong, is another large cause of ear damage and tinnitus. Medications that your doctor prescribes for other medical conditions, such as; antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, chemotherapy drugs, quinine, even aspirin can cause tinnitus. If you begin to have symptoms of tinnitus after your doctor has put you on any of these or any other meds get to your doctor as soon as you can. Under those circumstances your physician should change your medications and that should clear up your bout of tinnitus.
Again, the cure for your tinnitus will depend on the cause, and, before I go any further, don't believe it when they tell you that, for some types of tinnitus, there are no cures. There are you just need to keep trying. It took a long time for me to find the right one; you will too! There are lots of new holistic approaches now that weren't available when I was trying to get my tinnitus under control. Herbal solutions like Ginkgo Biloba, hypnosis, acupuncture, biofeedback, and even exercise have all been used successfully to treat tinnitus.
