Is This Groundhog Day For You?

Is This Groundhog Day For You?

Is This Groundhog Day For You?

You remember the movie Groundhog Day with Bill Murray, right?

His character is an uninspiring weathercaster who is stuck in a rut for several reasons and due to this, he keeps reliving Groundhog Day time and again until he stops acting as a victim and turns into a leader, changes his way of thinking and his actions, and only then is able to move on to February the 3rd and resume his life.

Can you relate to Phil Connors-Bill Murrays character name-?

Well, it is common for a leadership speaker and coach to meet lots of Phil Connors among corporate leaders who are trying to solve difficult problems. A lot of these leaders get stuck in a never-ending cycle of repetition because of their bad habit of engaging into limiting conversations.

Someone who would normally be a great leader can get in the way of his or her companys progress due to their tendency to focus and talk only about what they think can stop their companys efforts in a certain area, instead of focusing and affirming what they have to do to succeed.

If you, as a leader, relate to this then you are basically living Groundhog Day out of the screen!

However, even great leaders engage in limiting conversations, be it verbally or in their minds. These conversations may go something like this:

I can only run so far

I can only move so fast

I can only be in so many places at once

I can only keep so many balls in the air

Well, all these conversations do is keep you from advancing, and they lead to dissatisfaction and depression.

Luckily, the solution is within you, the leader, since you can change the situation in the blink of an eye if you are willing to let go of your self-imposed limitations.

Just try this:

-Think of the limiting conversations you normally have, these can relate to your personal or professional life, it doesnt matter.

-Take that conversation and turn it upside down, this is, stop telling yourself and others all the reasons why you will fail and start asking, what do I have to do to succeed? and what can I do that means I can?

Great leaders dont allow their lives and businesses to resemble such depressing fiction, so be aware of the way you talk and turn limiting conversations into limitless ones!
