Update the driver by going to the manufacturers site and getting the latest driver. Don't know what driver you need? Go to the start menu then my computer. Right click on my computer and select properties and then go to the hardware tab on the box that appears. From then click on device manager. In there you will see a tab labelled display adaptor. Expand that and you will see the make and model of your display adaptor. You can go to the manufacturers website and download the latest drivers to fix a computer running slow.

Once you have done this if the problem is still there you need to check the following. Does this error only occur when a specific program runs. If the answer is yes this is the problem and you need to update it or remove it. If you are not sure you need to keep a record of what is running when it happens and once you fix it you will stop the freezing and improve computer performance and stop your computer running slow.

It may be a problem with a program that starts up with windows. You can eliminate them by doing the following. Go to the start menu, then run and type in msconfig. Go to the startup tab and untick every program box. Only untick programs and then restart the computer. If it now runs ok enable one at a time until you have the program causing the problem. You can then remove it or get an update for it.

If you still have problems run a system and registry scan. There is a possibility of registry corruption. You can download and run a scanner and it will examine your computer for errors.
