Is Your Job Negatively Affecting Your Health?
If you've been a nine-to-fiver for as long as you can remember and you still haven't
moved even a rung up the so-called corporate ladder, perhaps it's about time you start thinking about your current lifestyle. You may be surprised to learn that a lackluster career may be a result of a stressful life, lack of exercise or physical activities and even low self-esteem. It is at times like these when one should seriously contemplate on switching to a different lifestyle.
How one's work environment can have a tremendous effect on one's health is easy to see. However, what is less obvious is how one's unpleasant feeling in the workplace greatly impacts one's emotional and intellectual condition.
One caught in the middle of such a sorry state is not able to work productively thus some positive changes are in order. This does not mean that one has to quit one's job and plunge full-time into a diet and exercise program. What needs to be done is simply to incorporate some positive changes into one's daily routine.
It is essential that workplace stress be eliminated or at least reduced because we spend so much of our waking hours there. If this is not dealt with accordingly, it would be a cause of frequent absences and low productivity which would negatively affect the company in general. When you're at work and you feel like exploding from the stress, take a couple of deep breaths until you feel calm then you are ready to return to your desk.
Physical activities are known to be great stress relievers. Instead of snacking on some sugary treat, why not take a short walk during your break time? Stop smoking and replace it with a leg stretching walk along the office corridor or in the yard. Do not worry about how short it may be, what is important is you do some movements.
Perhaps you also need to give your diet a makeover. Rather than eat pre-packed foods, wake up a little earlier and prepare real foods that contain the nutrients you need. By planning your meals and preparing them ahead of time, you would be able to include healthier snacks that you can binge on at work. It would be very beneficial if you avoid taking too much caffeine.
Maybe you need to inject some positive vibes into your workspace. You can organize everything and get rid of stuff that you do not really use which merely take up space. A clean and well-arranged space can have a calming and pleasing effect. It is also important to keep your cool as much as you can. Things don't always work out the way we want them to so there's no use in being frustrated about the things over which we have no control.
Choose the people you hang around. You may not be aware of it but their influence on you is much stronger than you think. You should believe that you have the power to change things. Do not let the pessimists at work cause you to think otherwise. Avoid them. Do the same with people who are loud but have nothing positive to say. Seek co-workers who have positive things and ideas to share.
